§ 14-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    At large means off the premises of the owner, and not under the control, custody, charge, or possession of the owner or other responsible person, either by leash, cord, chain, or otherwise.

    Cat means a member of the feline family and includes both male and female.

    Dog means a member of the canine family and includes both male and female.

    Fowl and poultry includes birds that are domesticated, hens, cocks, turkeys, geese, swans, ducks and other gallinaceous or similar birds.

    Owner means any person owning, harboring, keeping, or controlling a dog within the city limits.

    Wild animal is used as a term to indicate animals and reptiles of a species not usually domesticated in the United States and does not refer to the comparative docility or familiarity with man of a particular animal. Such term does not refer to pets customarily found in and about homes, such as baby turtles, small nonpoisonous lizards, and the like.
