§ 2-126. Appointment and removal; responsibilities.

  • The city clerk shall be appointed or removed by the mayor and shall be under the direct supervision of the mayor. The city clerk shall be the official keeper of the city seal. In addition, but not in limitation, the city clerk shall perform and be responsible for the following:

    (1)

    Be the supervisor of elections and be responsible for the preparation of the ballot and the conduct of all elections of the city.

    (2)

    Appoint deputy clerks as may from time to time be necessary to carry out the duties of the office.

    (3)

    Attend all meetings of the city council and keep the minutes of all these meetings.

    (4)

    Certify and maintain all permanent official records and archives of the city, with the exception of police department records. Police department records shall be maintained within the police department and it shall be the responsibility of the police chief to certify and maintain all permanent official records and archives of the police department.

    (5)

    Certify all ordinances and resolutions adopted by the city council.

    (6)

    Perform all other duties required by ordinance or resolution of the city council or as otherwise needed in the day-to-day operation of the city.
