§ 2-186. Established; director; organization; appointments.

  • (a)

    The public works department of the city is hereby established. The head of the department is the director of public works, who shall be appointed by the mayor and shall serve at the will of the mayor.

    (b)

    The organization and operating procedures of the public works department shall be as prescribed by the mayor.

    (c)

    The mayor, with the advice of the public works director, shall appoint such employees as may be necessary to perform the functions of the public works department. The salaries for the director and all departmental officers and employees shall be fixed by the city council. The manager or director may assign one person to perform, without additional compensation, the duties of other offices or positions created by, or made necessary by, the provisions of this division.
